The Watauga County Relay for Life 2006 was held at Watauga High School on June 16, 2006. It was simultaneously a celebration of the lives of cancer survivors as well as a memorial to the lives of those who have lost the battle to the disease.
Watauga Democrat photo editor Marie Freeman and publisher Tommy Wilson captured these hometown images at the Boone Independence Parade on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 in downtown Boone.

I am 100% against Jerry Butler. His son and I were in boy scouts together and he was a devil. He'd always rub it in our face that his dad was a rich dentist and always tell us that we didn't have enough food to eat because we were poor. I would never ever cast a vote for someone who would condone that kind of attitude from their kids. What does that say about his values? That people with less money than him are just gum on his shoes?
Your primary totals are a bit misleading. Dwight Shook actually carried Watauga by the vote totals you show. I believe it was the only county he carried. Now, what does that say about the state of the regional Republican party, which recruited and supported Shook? (I guess the other counties didn't know Butler as well as the locals do.)
I am so happy for Tim Futrelle. He is going to be a great voice on the county commission, He is young, bright and enthusiast and a welcome change. I am also happy for Carter. I think he has good old fashioned common sense and will represent us well.
A compilation of local images portraying the beauty of the High Country's flora, fauna and breathtaking vistas. Most of the photos were taken by Watauga County photographers both professional and amateur. Political junkie, you are wise beyond your years. Guess we'll have to vote for the "lesser of the evils."

I apologize for my error. I meant to say Dwight Shook.
